(Sh)’Ere we go again…

That is a dreadful pun. I am thoroughly ashamed of myself. It was sparked by the news that our venerable Government, in all its glorious wisdom, is considering instigating a ban on sausages that use sheep intestine.
"The scientists believe these measures will help to reduce still further the theoretical risk of humans contracting the disease by eating lamb, mutton or goats meat. There is no evidence to suggest any risk and scientists said their proposals were merely precautionary."
OK. So the risk is purely theoretical, in that there is absolutely no evidence anywhere for there being a risk, but they are going to ban it anyway, because obviously we lack the brain cells to make up our own minds whether or not to expose ourselves to a theoretical risk. It’s pathetic, really. If people really are incapable of assessing whether or not they wish to expose themselves to risk, then you might as well let them contract vCJD because there aren’t enough brain cells in there to make any difference.
