The Nine Ladies stone circle is on Stanton moor in Derbyshire. There are now ten stones, none over three feet tall, made of millstone grit. Aubrey Burl has suggested entrances in the low banks at the north-east and south-west. The circle was excavated by J.C. Heathcote and his son J.P. Heathcote. All their finds are kept in a private museum in the village of Birchover.

| Comments: | Big firepit was recently turfed over (in the last month or so, since my partner's last visit). New turf looks a bit parched. Of the other firepits around the outside of the circle, three were constructed (i.e. edged with rocks, and one had a corrugated iron sheet as its base) and there was an overturned metal barbecue next to the largest pit. Some of the scorched sites looked very recent (in te last week or so). Whole site felt very welcoming and friendly. There was another family there and the kids had a fantastic time chasing the other family's dog! |

| Comments: | The slogans on the path way were quite weird, sort of, 'stay away or the evil ones will get you' sort of thing. Although there have been lots of pagan/newage/whatever activity at the site recently because of the quarry threat, but I don't think they were responsible for the graffiti, it looked more like kids. |
