This is also occasionally known as the Quoit Stone. According to Cope, Chris Barber has noted that a peculiar type of ancient mortar is still to be found "in a small crevice o the west side of the south end of the huge capstone". The analysis in 1957 found that is contained large amounts of coal dust. The capstone weighs around 25 tons.
