Pagan Stuff & Prehistoric Ponderings

I would suggest that you take the time to read this article on why the "pagan" attributions on this page could be seen to be arguable. I haven't found the time to go through re-vamping everything yet, but if you want to be clear about what I mean when I write "pagan", and why I no longer use the term with regards to myself, that's the place to go.

A quick explanation as to why I lumped the pagan stuff and the prehistoric stuff in the same folder:

Unlike the apparent vast majority of pagans (or Pagans), I do not separate my more pagan doings from the rest of me. So my interest in prehistoric monuments is as much a part of my philosophy as my career interests, my interest in cycling, my art, my writing, in fact everything else about me. I am "pagan" in the same way that I am female and have a nose on my face. I approach my interest in these things from a slightly different angle, perhaps, from your non-pagan, and a lot of the stuff I have in here is aimed at pagans who might just need a trigger to think a bit more about what they are doing, so hence I combined the two.

Right. What is to be found in here?

Well, there's the obligatory Raven Brat piece on Raven - if a Raven brat ever refers to "Dad", make sure you understand the context, because he might not be talking about a person. This goes some way to trying to explain the website address, the colour scheme, the Rantz, and everything else. And it keeps us Raven brats happy.

There's my rant about why "paganism" doesn't equate with religion, because I got fed up rehashing the same old arguments. Now when someone turns up on #pagan and asks me what sort of pagan I am, I can just point them over there.

I guess I should come clean and own up to being responsible for the Corvax stuff. Um, if you do come across Corvax on #pagan, then it's probably me. Check the email address. I use C_Corax@yahoo.com to avoid spam. The guest book on there doesn't work any more, I can't even get the site to accept the username and password for it. I'll probably get around to putting up another one. Corvax was an experiment in shifting, and a very good one at that. Corvax is really an it, not a him or a her, and I had a lot of fun with it and made a few enemies while I was at it. But never mind.

I'm also the owner and moderator of the Atropos list. I'm quite strict. Do feel free to send in a subscription request, but read the FAQ first, and please try to follow the instructions. They aren't hard. This has turned out to be an extremely good list for discussing things in a robust and frank manner, and we do require intelligent discussion. Do not even attempt to join unless you are prepared to put thought into your posts.

Then we have the sites series of articles. Some of these have been published. A Plea to Practising Pagans was orignally published in The Right Times (see http://www.rollright.demon.co.uk/), Physical Damage at Sites was published in Viator ( http://www.liferites.org), as was Organising Ritual at Prehistoric Sites. The article on What Puts the "Sacred" into "Sacred Sites"? was published first in "Walking the Talk", the journal of Save our Sacred Sites, and also in Northern Earth.

Oh yes. And then there's the article about King Kev. No offense.

The site visits section is possibly the most important thing on this page. Please help. The online form doesn't take long to fill in and I'd be ever so grateful.

Oh aye. Best to point out that Andy and I are apparently, according to the bloke from English Heritage, the "Provisional Temperance Reductionist Wing of ASLaN", whose principles are:

  1. It's all just stuff
  2. Get over it
  3. Never forget to bring the tea bags
  4. Touch it and we'll kneecap you

I'm pretty sure he was joking.
